Maze
Maze - one of Australia's most widely-used School Management Solutions.
The strength of Maze is its configurable database dictionary that allows clients to define their own data fields, data tables, business rules and system rules - making Maze an innovative and sophisticated solution.
What is Maze?
Maze is installed in almost 3000 schools throughout Australia and overseas.
Maze is a powerful relational database application, designed to integrate the disparate school processes of financial management, enrolments, student management, student assessment, timetabling and school management into a user friendly, technologically advanced solution. It uses the robust and extensible MS SQL Server database engine and is extremely flexible in all aspects of the database design, from field and table definitions through to the user-definable business rules. These changes can be made at the client level, without affecting the integrity of the data or the programs. In this way, Maze has been quickly and easily modified to meet the unique needs of different systemic groups and education departments within Australia and South East Asia, without altering the program source-code.
The philosophy of RM is to develop self-sufficiency and independence in our clients. Maze has powerful user-operated developer tools to modify screens and reports, to reflect the database modifications required by each client. Trained Maze clients use the screen designer and report writer to maintain changes in their systems. The developer tools are used to facilitate data sharing with third-party applications and dynamically link to other database applications.

The innovative features of Maze
The strength of Maze is its configurable database dictionary that allows clients to define their own data fields, data tables, business rules and system rules – making Maze an innovative and sophisticated solution. It is designed in components, built up of many data tables which hold the data and help schools with their administration tasks, financial control, academic records, curriculum and timetabling work and development office duties. It enables Maze to be modified to suit specific needs of all clients without having to alter the program’s source code.
Other features include:
- Easy to follow user interface - The Maze menu is built around the processes in a school, not the computer programs. This makes it meaningful for operators, reducing training and increasing productivity.
- Maze is designed to provide clients with a consistent Windows style ensuring ease of use with other Windows products and minimising the learning curve. In keeping with this, the use of a proprietary graphical menu has been carefully avoided.
- Extensive Reporting tools - One of Maze’s strongest features is the easy to use and extremely flexible report designing facilities. The user-friendly Quicklist report writer makes it simple to create an ad-hoc report. It has a direct interface to a point and click SQL design tool for operators to create their own SQL statements without any training.
- The sophisticated Report Designer has a simple graphical interface to the extensive and powerful tools used to create complex reports. The Maze report writer is limited only by a user’s imagination and gives users the power to create reports by linking data tables together and creating lists, statistical and financial reports.
- Interoperability - Maze is built on the powerful SQL Server 2000 database engine. It has data links to MS Excel and interfaces easily with other applications through ODBC and OLEDB. It can respond to queries from other databases and web traffic using Transact SQL. All this provides the interoperability required by organisations to integrate business systems and processes.
- Powerful security features - Maze security is powerful. It is constructed on a three-dimensional model which provides a high level of security control. Users must have a user name and password to gain access to Maze. Users can be appointed into security groups. Group security can be implemented to control menu access, data read/write access and screen/report access.
